Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario helps low-income families build and buy simple, decent quality affordable homes through a no-interest mortgage with payments set at approximately 25 percent of gross income. This solution not only helps to provide affordable housing for families in need, it enables low-income families to build assets, reduce their dependence on other forms of social assistance and break the cycle of poverty. Families who feel they may qualify for a Habitat home are invited to fill out this simple pre-application qualification form to determine if they should go forward with the full application process.


Step 1: Review eligibility criteria contained on this website

Please review the Program Qualifications on our website to determine if your family may be eligible for Habitat’s Homeownership program.

Step 2: Complete a Pre-Application Form

Families who feel they may qualify for a Habitat home are invited to fill out the simple pre-application qualification form above to determine their eligibility in moving forward with the application process.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at: or call 519 455 6623 ext 214.

Step 3: Wait to be contacted

Wait to be contacted by Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario about your Pre-Application form. Our Family Services and Outreach Coordinator will contact you once they receive the Pre-Application form to review it with you and let you know if you are able to move on to the next stage. If so, they will schedule a time with you to pick up the full application form.

Step 4: Submit a completed application

Full applications for homeownership will be distributed to families that have successfully qualified in the pre-application stage. Once you have completed the full application you may submit it along with all requested documentation to:

Step 5: Applications Reviewed

A committee of volunteers called the Family Selection and Support Committee (FSSC) will conduct a thorough review of each submitted application.
The selection process includes:

  • Review of all financial records to determine an applicant’s financial stability
  • Conduct a home interview to assess level of need
  • FSSC deliberates to decide if basic eligibility criteria are met
  • Recommend approval/rejection of applicant to the CEO of Habitat for Humanity Heartland
  • CEO confirms approval/rejection of application
  • Partner Family notified of approval/rejection of application
