Building Homes While Growing Friendships

Longtime Habitat for Humanity ReStore volunteers, Krysten and Daniel (pictured below), have become close friends since they both signed up to volunteer at the ReStore almost two years ago. Their contribution of many volunteer hours has not only led to the growth of their skills in the workplace, but also comradery and friendship.

Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario operates ReStores to help cover the administrative costs associated with building safe and affordable homes. The ReStore serves as a great place for people of all skill levels and abilities to get involved in their communities and grow personally and professionally in an inclusive environment.

“We provide a lot of support for each other in the work environment [and] encourage each other to try new things and get out of our comfort zone.”  - Daniel, ReStore Volunteer

Krysten encourages everyone to consider becoming a Habitat ReStore volunteer, saying “Everyone who works at Habitat benefits our homeowners, because every item that is donated [or purchased] helps to build homes for lower-income, hardworking families. Volunteer! Make a family’s life better. Make your life better. You might end up making a friend or two!”

We’re grateful to Krysten, Daniel, and every volunteer who contributes to the cause. You can get involved at any Heartland ReStore by signing up at habitat4home.ca/volunteer. Share your skills, or learn new ones in areas like customer service, merchandising, warehouse assistance, and more.
