For many students, a co-op placement is an opportunity to explore career paths, gain hands-on experience, and build valuable skills. For Liam, a co-op student at the Brantford ReStore, it became something even more—an opportunity to be part of a welcoming community, contribute to a meaningful cause, and develop skills that will support his future goals. Below, Liam shares his experience in his own words.Â

What inspired you to choose ReStore as the place to work?Â
I was inspired to do my co-op at the Brantford ReStore due to the amazing staff and the ability to make the world a better place. After completing volunteer hours at the Brantford ReStore, I felt at home with the amazing and inclusive staff and just felt the need to come back and help them continue to sell affordable items and fund the build projects for affordable housing.Â
Can you share some highlights or memorable experiences you’ve had while working at ReStore?Â
I have made lots of memories during my time at the ReStore. One of my favourites was the ReStore Christmas party. It felt good to meet and connect with my co-workers outside of work and get to know them on a personal level before the holiday break.Â
Looking ahead, what are your goals or aspirations for your future after your time at ReStore?Â
My professional goal is to someday be a pilot. Although it is a very different job than the ReStore, the communication skills, networking skills, and job experience I learned at the ReStore will help me excel in any chosen career.Â
Would you recommend the ReStore as a co-op / volunteer opportunity to other students? If yes, why?Â
I would highly recommend doing a co-op or volunteering at the ReStore to any student or person. After talking to other co-op students, I can relate to almost all their experiences due to the variety of tasks I did at the ReStore. The warehouse, truck, and storefront offer all different skills to learn which combine into the ultimate variety of work out of any co-op experience.Â
Liam’s time at the ReStore was about more than just gaining work experience—it was about being part of a community dedicated to making a difference. Whether you’re a student looking for a hands-on learning opportunity or someone eager to give back, the ReStore offers a dynamic and fulfilling experience that leaves a lasting impact. If you’re considering a co-op or volunteer placement, Liam’s story is proof that ReStore is a great place to learn, grow, and be part of something meaningful.Â
