ReStore Training Program

Learn transferable skills while earning co-op credits and a training certificate – at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore

Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario’s ReStore Training Program is designed to enable youth between the ages of 16 and 30 to learn skills in retail while working in a social enterprise-allowing them to form a strong foundation for their future.

This FREE Training Program is open to all individuals who are:

  • Between 16 and 30 years of age
  • Looking to complete their high school co-op credit, work placement, or gain retail experience
  • Enthusiastic about a career in an environmentally conscious non-profit enterprise
  • Able to commit to 40 hours over the length of at least 4 weeks

The training program is scheduled to begin in September 2022 and again in January 2023. Currently, it is only available at the London and St. Thomas ReStores.

Participants will choose between two different pathways based on their interests and availability. Each pathway has a series of module training sessions, and an instructor to assist with the on-the-job training at their local Habitat ReStore. Skilled learning will be in the following areas of interest:

  • Retail operations such as merchandising, sales, and pricing
  • Cashier – Point of Sale System
  • Customer Service
  • Receiving Donations
  • Marketing and Promotions
  • Warehouse and Receiving
  • Workplace Safety and More

In addition to the skills listed above, we will teach life skills such as teamwork, accountability, leadership, time management, confidence, and self-esteem.

After the program, participants will receive a certificate of completion and a letter of acknowledgement outlining the skills learned during the program.

Apply today for a chance at participating in this unique program that allows you to collaborate with a non-profit and gain skills in the retail environment!

About Habitat for Humanity & ReStore

Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario is an affiliate of Habitat Canada, a national network of non-profit housing organizations with a global vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. We mobilize communities to help working families build strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership. With the help of volunteers, donors, and community partners, we provide a solid foundation for better, healthier lives for families in Oxford, Elgin, Perth, Middlesex, Brant and Norfolk Counties. In support of Habitat for Humanity Heartland’s homebuilding projects, we operate a network of social enterprise home improvement stores called ReStore. Our ReStore locations across the counties that we serve sell new and gently-used donated home furnishings, appliances, renovation materials and more. Proceeds from sales help cover the cost to build affordable housing in our region. To learn more, visit: habitat4home.ca and habitat4home.ca/restore.
