Rockin out for a cause

Even if you’re a big Pink Floyd fan, here’s are a few facts you might not know.

  • In the song “Empty Spaces” on The Wall, that bit of gibberish just before the lyrics begin is backward dialogue that states, “Congratulations you have just discovered the secret message.”
  • The 1971’s ‘Echoes” was originally named “Nothing, Parts 1 – 24.” There was nothing to that song’s success!
  • As early as 1966, Pink Floyd’s concerts were multimedia events incorporating film and production into that experience

Another (local) fact you might not know? The Jeans ‘n Classics band, Canada’s only rock symphony, will be covering The Music of Pink Floyd on June 20 at The London Convention Centre, and will be rocking out for a great cause.

Did we mention that the Jeans ‘n Classics band is made-up of world-class musicians? Seriously. These musicians are Juno and Grammy award winners (and have a long list accolades behind their names). Take a look at their rap sheet:

  • Gavin Hope three-time Juno nominee
  • Lou Pomanti Grammy nominee, two-time Grammy winner for “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album”, three-time Juno winner for “Pop Album of the Year”, “Single of the Year” and “Album of the Year”, five-time Gemini nominee, and Gemini winner
  • Rik Emmett five-time Juno nominee and Canadian Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame inductee
  • Dave Dunlop two-time Canadian Smooth Jazz winner, Canadian Smooth Jazz nominee, and Canadian Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame inductee
  • Steve Lucas three-time Juno winner for “Most Promising Male Vocalist” and “Best Roots or Traditional Album” and Academy Award nominee
  • Neil Donnell three-time Juno nominee and five-time CCMA nominee
  • Paul DeLong Juno winner for “Album of the Year”
  • Dale Anne Brendon Juno nominee
  • Steve Hogg Juno winner for “Most Promising Male Vocal”
  • David Blamires two-time Grammy winner in the “Contemporary Jazz” category
  • Rique Franks Juno winner for “Best R&B Album” and 20 years as the voice of Showcase Television
  • Steve Heathcote five-time Gospel Music Association Covenant nominee, and two-tive Gospel Music Association Covenant Awards winner for “Album of the Year” and “Instrumental Song of the Year”

These world-class musicians are not only building a stronger music culture; they are building a strong London community through supporting Habitat for Humanity. Houses are being built for local families in our community. Habitat homes are sold at a zero-interest mortgage rate and allows families to put in “sweat-equity” as their down payment with 500 hours of volunteer work.

So on June 20, expect to have a fun night out while rocking out for an amazing cause!
