Through the Eyes of a Three Year Old Child

My name is Mohammed Solomon, I am 3 years old. I can speak Kurdish and English, I will tell you my story in English. My dad’s name is Aked and my mom’s name is Vine. They were married in 1997 in Iraq but she couldn’t come to Canada. My dad came to London, Canada in 2001 to find a peaceful home. In 2010 my dad went to Iraq to bring my mom to Canada. My dad says, “What a long time to wait”. They came to London because they say this is the best place to have a family. I became a Canadian in 2013. I was a baby then, so I don’t remember much.

My dad takes us fishing. I like fishing. We caught many fish. I can show with my hand how big the fish are – they are really big. My mom and dad cook the fish. Sometimes we eat them for supper.

This summer I had fun with my friends. We went to Storybook Gardens. I went up so high in the sky on the Big wheel (Ferris Wheel). When the ride stopped I said, “Again, again”. And I went again and again and again. My older brother Ahmed likes to keep his feet on the ground, he liked the peddle cars best. He called them racing cars and he was so happy to drive all by himself-and he is just 4 years old. My dad went with us on the elephant ride. It wasn’t easy for him to sit in the little seat. I laughed, he looked so funny on the elephant ride. We were busy all day. My dad says I am full of energy – whatever that is.

When we came home from the park, my mom and dad made a special supper for us and our friends. My mom is a very good cook (so is my dad). My mom was busy taking care of our new baby sister. Our baby’s name is Aryana and she was born in July, 2015. She sleeps best when me and my brother are making a little noise while we play. She can hear that we are happy so she is happy too. Sometimes our baby cries, and we run to see her. She cries when she needs some help from my mom. We keep our mom very busy, but she is always happy to help us and to be with us and to do all the things that moms do for their family.

Our apartment is on floor number 7. I can watch the busy cars on Southdale Road out our window. I can count the buses that go by – well, up to ten. Ahmed can count to twenty-thirty, I think that is the number. Whenever we hear a fire truck coming we run to the window. I have blocks and duple for making buildings. My dad took us to see a new building, he said it was a house being built by Habitat for Humanity. My dad said that Habitat for Humanity and their helpers and our family will work together to build a house for our family. My dad said the day they told him this was one of his happiest days. My mom and dad made lunch for the workers there. Everybody liked the Biryani best. I like it too. All workers were friendly, we liked them very much. I think they will make our house next year. That will be a very special time for our family.

My big friend helped me with my story, he knows how to print letters. Ahmed will start going to school in September, soon he will learn how to print too. Aryana sleeps a lot, but every day we all learn new things. We keep our mom and dad very busy, but they have time to learn too. Me and my brother Ahmed are good teachers. I think Aryana will be to, when she gets bigger.
